My name is
Esther Kallouz. I'm 35 years old and married for 13 years. My husband, two
lovely children (6 and 9) and I, we live in a small village in the canton
Thurgovy in Switzerland. From our flat, we've got a beautiful view on the
local nature reservation. And not to forget, we have three cats.
Some years
back, I worked as a bookseller, but at the moment I enjoy looking after my
children.
I have always
been fascinated by dolls and my little daughter is sharing this love. With
only six years, she has quite a collection of dolls and once in a while she
feels like rescuing another poor doll from a shop.
In December
2004, I discovered the so-called reborns at Ebay. Ever since then, I've
caught the virus. By reborning dolls, I learned a lot of different
techniques and I've accumulated some knowledge which proofs very helpful in
sculpturing dolls.
When I was a
young girl, I liked drawing and painting. Even back than I was particularly
intrigued by children's faces. Back then, I used to do drawings in pencils
after photographs.
What
do I like best about sculpting?
The
sculpting of the face! Sometimes when I start, I can hardly belief how a
piece of clay can be transformed into a look-alike face. In the beginning,
the head sometimes really look strange, but once I sketch mouth and nose, I
suddenly becomes obvious what it will look like.
The best moment is always
when I hold the head in my hands and suddenly I get the feeling a real child
is looking back at me. It is as if a child came to life in my hands!
