Hello!!!!!!!!
My name is Philomena Donnelly (Phil for short). I am an artist and self-taught sculptor from Ireland. I am married to a very supporting husband Damien. I have three beautiful children. Two boys and a girl who inspire me every single day.
As a child I
have always been interest in art of all sorts, in particular portraits.
I lived in Germany for some years working in a bakery and enjoying German
culture. Upon returning to Ireland I decided to take on some evening art classes.
Lately I had the chance to attend a foundation course in art and design and just
recently received my art diploma. I learned in college that I also had a natural
ability for graphic design
I first came across polymer clay about year ago, September 2005. I stumbled upon reborn babies one evening and was hooked by the realism. Shortly after many nights looking at reborn babies I came across ooak sculpts. They amazed me even more, that shortly after; I spent many hours sculpting my first Baby. It was old clay that I had lying around and although it was not perfect it still amazed me to see a personality develop from the clay. I realized there and then that these babies were something that I would like to master. My aim became to produce realistic looking babies and with my love of children and art, I realized that this was something that I would really enjoy. I have since decided to take time off college to improve my sculpting. The majority of my sculpts are between 2-7 inches long but recently I have just started sculpting larger babies. The first two being portraits of my boys and I am in the process of sculpting my little girl.
I strive with every sculpt to make them as realistic as possible. Every sculpt is a learning process and I always hope the next one will be better and much more life like than the previous one. I really enjoy creating these babies and capturing forever an expression of innocence.
All my sculptures are individually hand-sculpted and are created without the use of moulds. They are recommended for an adult collector to enjoy for years to come. I recently had the honour to have my babies featured in the U.K magazine Discover Dolls.
Thanks for taking the time to read a little about me.
